That, and the location based at the heart of innovation and a true sailing culture, is the reason for our love affair with Alubat.
It’s often said that all boats are a compromise, but when it comes to building aluminum boats, there is a better way to do it. And the Alubat boatyard has been doing it right for 52 years. One of the impressive things is that they are not willing to compromise the methodology for efficiency. For example, the entire structure is built in semi-thick aluminum before a single system or piece of furniture is installed. That means everything has to enter through the companionway. This is not the most efficient way to build a boat, but it is the BEST way to build a boat when it comes to building an aluminum sailboat.
Another challenge of building aluminum boats right is it doesn’t allow the Alubat boatyard to gain efficiency by hiring unskilled people. Every worker at the boatyard is a highly skilled person, and that really reflects on the final outcome of the product. These are decisions that benefit the boat and the boat owner more than the boatyard, and that’s something we really love about Alubat.
