Aluminum OVNI 370 sailboat

Aluminum Sailboat Building at its Best

Where's the best place to see a new Aluminum sailboat? The Alubat boatyard in France, of course! See highlights of what to expect on your visit to Alubat.

Follow new owners Kevin and Olga as they tour the Alubat shipyard with Luc Jurien, CEO of Alubat, visit key suppliers, and learn about the process of building an aluminum sailboat. Of course, the highlight of the trip to the shipyard is a sea trial aboard a new Ovni 370, and as usual, the 370 did not disappoint!

A visit to the shipyard is one of the best ways to learn about the build process from start to finish. There is typically several boats in various stages of completion, from shaping and welding on a jig, to painting and finishing, and on occasion, even a launch of a new sailboat!

Kevin and Olga also spent several hours going over their work order in detail with Denis. It’s not only about choosing upholstery colors, that’s the easy part! Deciding which systems they want on board, sails and which navigation systems best suite their needs requires a lot of research.

We’ve always said that the where your boat is built is important. The Alubat shipyard is located in Les Sable d’Olonne, a historic ship building town with access to nautical services and suppliers. This means that any questions about navigation electronics, for example, can be answered directly from local suppliers.

Be sure to watch the video for a tour of the Alubat shipyard, and, of course, a seatrial aboard the Ovni 370 aluminum sailboat.
